International Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention Headed To Broward County-owned BB&T; Center In Summer 2014


SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that the International Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention will visit the Broward County-owned BB&T Center for four weekends during the Summer of 2014. 

The Jehovah’s Witnesses International Convention is one of the most significant of its kind and will bring major economic impact to Broward County including an estimated 12,000 room nights, more than $5M in sales tax, and approximately $96M in overall economic impact. 

“We are thrilled to have worked with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and the Broward County hoteliers to secure the International Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention for the Summer of 2014,” said SSE President Michael R. Yormark. “This convention will bring major economic impact benefits to Broward County and our surrounding community with approximately 18,000 people expected inside the BB&T Center during each event day.”
“We are excited at the possibility of holding our Conventions at the BB&T Center,” said Stephen Plude, Contract Representative for Jehovah's Witnesses Conventions. “The building is a good fit for our Conventions and we have appreciated the assistance of Michael Yormark and his staff, Nicki Grossman and her staff and the support from the local hoteliers and businesses.”

This convention, and its resulting economic impact, could only be secured thanks to the new scoreboard and master control room that was recently approved by the Broward County Commission. This new scoreboard will allow the Convention attendees to view a clearer picture of the speakers, demonstrations, drama participants and the sound will be audible and easily understood. 

If the convention is successful in 2014 it would potentially return to the BB&T Center in subsequent years.
