The Grammy-Award winning rock duo, The Black Keys come to BB&T Center on Dec. 15 for one night only.
Formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001 the group consisting of Dan Auerbach (Guitar) and Patrick Carney (drums) fused the sounds of indie and blues rock to become one of the most acclaimed groups in rock and alternative music.
The tandem recorded their first album, The Big Come Up in 2002 and followed up with albums in each of the two years that followed. Their third album Rubber Factory was released in 2004 to critical acclaim and named one of the year’s best albums in Entertainment Weekly and The New Yorker.
The Black Keys released Brothers in 2010 and it proved to be the band’s breakthrough album. The single “Tighten Up” spent ten weeks at number one on the Alternative Songs chart and became the group’s first single to hit the Billboard Hot 100, reaching 87. Their second single “Howlin’ for You” was a success as it was certified gold in the US. Winning three Grammys (2011), including Best Alternative Music Album for Brothers, The Black Keys began to garner mainstream attention as they headed into the studio for their next album.
Their follow-up El Camino was certified platinum in the US, UK and Ireland while reaching double-platinum status in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The lead single for the album, “Lonely Boy” reached number two on the Billboard 200 in the US. El Camino won Best Rock Album while “Lonely Boy” won Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song at the 2013 Grammys. Embarking on their first arena headlining tour, The Black Keys sold out their show at Madison Square Garden within 15 minutes of tickets going on sale.
The newest album, Turn Blue debuted at number one in the US, becoming the first album the band has released to top the charts in their home country. The singles “Fever” and “Turn Blue” have powered the record to the top of rock and alternative radio to propel The Black Keys into the status one of the top bands in the world today.
